Party leader condemns intolerance and bigotry in same-sex marriages debate
The Party of Wales leader Leanne Wood has condemned the Secretary of State for Wales’ decision to vote against allowing churches and religious organisations to hold same-sex marriages, saying:
“The Secretary of State needs to move into the 21st century. Plaid Cymru is striving to build an inclusive, more equal Wales where prejudice and discrimination have no place. We are fully supportive of moves to eliminate the discrimination and inequality in the law and support marriage for same-sex couples. Committed and stable relationships are good for the individuals involved, for children for wider society. The intolerance and bigotry shown by some in the debate on this question is outdated and has no place in a modern, progressive country like Wales."
