Plaid Cymru welcomes Nominet consultation
Plaid Cymru’s broadcasting spokesperson Alun Ffred Jones has welcomed a consultation which has been launched today by Nominet. Nominet is a registry operator which is planning to launch two Welsh domain names called .wales and .cymru.
The Party of Wales is supportive of Nominet’s application, and hopes that establishing the domain names will enable Welsh businesses to trade under the Welsh brand, and will allow Welsh organisations to assert their identity.
Plaid Cymru’s Broadcasting spokesperson Alun Ffred Jones said:
“The consultation that Nominet has today launched is an important step forwards. It is now important that individuals, public bodies and private companies all respond and present their views so that we can ensure that Wales’ online identity is strengthened.
“The prospect of establishing a Welsh domain name is an opportunity that cannot be missed. But it needs to be done properly, and consultation is important in ensuring a successful outcome. We need to be doing all we can to support both Welsh business and Welsh culture, and a Welsh domain name, in Wales’ two official languages, is a vital step forward in this regard.”
